Mackenzie Art Gallery
Branding, Website, Signage, Print2018—
The MacKenzie Art Gallery is one of Canada’s largest and most respected visual arts institutions. It’s also Saskatchewan’s oldest public art gallery, and maintained to Class A Museum standards, with a permanent collection that spans 5,000 years of art with nearly 5,000 works. The MacKenzie’s programs encompass research, exhibitions, collections, publications and a diverse range of immersive encounters—including a library and digital lab, online experience, gift shop, café, classes, workshops, public programs, school tours, events, performances, residencies, screenings, and more.
Urbanink was responsible for rebranding the gallery including logo design, all brand assets and animations, website design, signage for both exterior and interior, development of exhibition signage standards, print and digital ad templates, brochures and merchandise.

The new logo began with the concept of sitting around a fire telling stories. The MacKenzie is a creative hub, where everyone can feel welcome to visit, share stories, create, engage, and participate. The off-kilter “M”, represents the Gallery’s desire to continually change, to offer new and exciting initiatives, and never stay static. We want to shift the perspective of those who come to the MacKenzie, so that they can see the world in a new light, with art that transforms and inspires.

The pictograms in the MacKenzie Art Gallery’s new visual identity, come from unattributed words spoken by Indigenous peoples of Turtle Island to articulate the spirit of our treaties: “as long as the sun shines the river flows and the grass grows”

Encouraging viewers to revisit the MacKenzie’s collection and glean newly relevant insights, the tagline plays off how the new visual identity reveals different patterns and associations the more you look at it. It is time to look again. At what a public art gallery can be. At what art reveals. At our history. At Saskatchewan. At each other. At ourselves.

Bazaart is Saskatchewan’s largest outdoor art and craft show & sale, showcasing handmade creations by Canadian artists and artisans. Organized by the MacKenzie Art Gallery, Bazaart is one of the Gallery’s biggest annual fundraisers, attracting nearly 6,000 attendees each year in support of the MacKenzie’s renowned exhibitions and public programs.
